The Penmaenmawr Historical Society was established in 1973.
The purpose of the Society is to promote and encourage the study of local
history in Penmaenmawr a.k.a. the Parish of Dwygyfylchi and to promote the
preservation, security and accessibility of archival material relating to the
history of our district.. The Society holds lectures, organises visits to places
of historic interest and presents exhibitions to members and interested members
of the general public.
The Society has in the past published booklets on local history and hopes to
produce more in the near future once financial support is confirmed.
Membership is open to all persons showing interest in the Society’s objectives.
The Society meets on the third Wednesday evening in the months of October and
November and from January to April. Outings are usually held in June and July.
The venue for the Winter meetings is St. Paul’s Church schoolroom on Celyn
Street.
We are currently engaged in a ‘Community Archive Project’ which entails the
acquiring of photographs and documents relating to Penmaenmawr and putting them
on CD and eventually making them available on the web ( COMMANET -— community archive network.)
Since 2003 the Society, in partnership with Conwy Borough C. C., has manned on a
voluntary basis the New York Cottages Museum on Bangor Road which is open to the
public on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 2.00—4.OOpm from June to September.
We are always ready to answer enquires on the history of the Penmaenmawr and the
Parish of Dwygyfylchi.
